When I first started in on this mountain I was already out of breath. Lol. Let's be truthful. I wasn't planning on climbing to the top. I am not as determined as my friend here who was like, "oh yeah, we're climbing this thing to the top." But as we went on, I admit, I was like.. yeah we are. Lol. Which - in the scheme of things is how I usually work. I find motivation AS I GO. Hahaha. But I have found this is a good way to process life b/c then I move at my pace and I don't run out of steam, I finish the race.
We talked on our way up about all kinds of things. Mostly about how much this mountain was kicking our butts. Lol. We'd stop for a photo or two - talk about how much fun we were having, how grateful we were for the experience. Then we realized we were only about half way up. Lol. And we were pretty tired. But we were NOT coming this far to quit now. So we journeyed on. Always aware of edges and what might lay under rocks. Always somewhat fearful, but within that fear is exhilaration. 3/4 of the way up we stopped for water and sat there - we'd journey and sit. The air was becoming thinner as we got to higher altitudes. But Vincy { being the coach that she is in spirit } was like, "You've got this girl, we can do this." I wasn't arguing but I did appreciate the extra boost of encouragement and can honestly say, I couldn't have done it or wanted to do it without her. It was a team effort and one of the best memories I have made in over 13 years with my best friend. Before we knew it we were at the top. Mindblown and so proud that WE DID IT! We made it to the top. And we sat there a bit and looked around, watched 3 black butterflies fly around - saw NO butterflies until we got to the top. This of course made me smile. We each had our reasons for thinking our loved ones gone before us were proud. We spoke of Vincy's dad and my sister and how they are probably high-fivin' in heaven that we just accomplished THAT. 2700 feet up.
I have never climbed a mountain. Figuratively - this girl has watched me climb a many a mountain in life. And I her too. Jokingly we talked for years - with our mutual love for Egyptian history - about climbing the pyramids of Egypt one day. And while that may never be a safe thing to do anytime soon - we atleast can say we climbed Camel Back Mountain. Close enough. Haha.
What an amazing day. Amazing memories and an amazing friendship.
Love her so much. Love that we did this together! #stronglikebulls
